Our Classes

St. James Preschool offers several different main classrooms as well as additional educational opportunities.

We review our annual enrollment to determine the most appropriate make up of classes based on the children’s developmental and social needs.  Our atmosphere provides individual attention, as our ratio of teacher to children is much lower than that of a traditional school.

2-Year-Old Class

We offer a 2-day program on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:15-11:45 am for children turning two years of age by the start of the school year. This class provides children an introduction to preschool with hands on activities, opportunities for growth in social skills, self-awareness, working toward extending attention, and independence.

3-Year-Old Class

For children who are 3 by the end of September of the school year and are potty trained we offer a 2-day or 3-day program. Classes are offered Tuesday and Thursday for the two day class and Monday, Wednesday, Friday for the three day class.  In this class there will be a great deal of emphasis on body awareness, sensory development, fine and gross motor skills, language development, and many other readiness skills.  The main purpose of the curriculum will be to provide as many opportunities as possible for the children to experience and learn about themselves and their world.

Pre-Kindergarten Class (Younger)

This class accepts children turning 5 years of age after March of the current school year. It meets five days from 9:15-11:45 am.  This program is designed for children transitioning to kindergarten the following year, as well as those who may require an additional year of preschool.  Our experienced Pre-K teacher provides kindergarten preparation in a nurturing environment exposing children to an array of hands-on learning activities. Our curriculum covers many concepts, but the children are not required to master them before entering kindergarten.  Children learn these concepts at their own pace and are taught with hands-on materials, songs, and games.  These concepts include: literacy, math and science, social studies, creative arts, social and emotional development, and health and wellness.
